Toshiba Notebook Memory
You will find that Toshiba notebook memory is probably one
of the easiest upgrades you can perform on your notebook.
Whether you have the Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook or the
Toshiba Portege M400 you will find that Toshiba ram memory is
both easy to locate on your notebook and easy to take out and
re-install.
The Toshiba notebook memory comes in modules which are
called DIMMS which stands for Dual Inline Memory Module.
These modules are similar to the ones used in standard PC’s but
they are extra small just like a notebook and have an added a
couple of extra letters to make sure you purchase the proper
memory, DIMMMS are for standard PC’s and for notebooks you get
SO-DIMM, the SO stands for Small Outline and these are
specifically for notebooks. Be forewarned though,
cracking open your laptop can void your warranty and if you are
not experienced or confident then perhaps you should get
someone who knows what they are doing to do it otherwise you
could damage one of the many components that also exist within
the shell of the notebook.
If you feel comfortable around electronics then you really
should be ok, its not that hard to change the Toshiba notebook
memory modules within the Toshiba Qosmio Notebook especially if
you have changed components in a standard PC. Before you
install the memory into your notebook you may have to check
your manual just to make sure the brand and speed of the memory
is compatible with your existing setup.
The memory is usually held in with a couple of clips and all
you need to do is pull both of those clips away from the memory
and the ram should just pop out. Once you have removed
your memory all you then have to do is align the new memory
into the slot and push both the clips back in so the memory is
secure. You will hear a clicking sound when the clips
clip back in and then the memory chips will be secure and will
not fall out.
The biggest difference besides size between standard Toshiba
Notebook Memory and a standard PC’s memory is price.
Notebook memory tends to be more expensive then standard PC
memory due to the smaller size and the fact that there is not
as much produced because there are more PC’s in the world then
notebooks. Upgrading your Toshiba Notebook Memory should
see an increase in performance with your notebook. You
may notice noticeable things such as quicker boot up speeds,
programs loading quicker within the operating system and
applications being able to handle larger products.
Since notebook memory is more expensive, it also carries
onto the prices of notebooks. If you are going to be
running Microsoft Vista then you ideally would need at least
1GB of ram for the speed and operation of the operating system
to function at an acceptable level for both performance and
speed. Ideally you would have at least 2GB for Vista to
work at its premium performance.
